Purrfect timing!
Self Critique: I’m still unsure if I made her midsection too long. The pic’s perspective is supposed to be slightly tilted, but there’s not enough of elements to indicate such, resulting in things looking like they’re misaligned with the floor.
Here comes another Skullgirls commission from my regular DagobahResident. This time it’s cat-puns incarnate, Ms. Fortune. I was tasked to make a stretching pose for her in profile. At first I though this was gonna be easy-peasy. Then I moved my body-chan into position… about as much as I could, which wasn’t a lot. I tried to move the upper body further down to the floor, but to no avail. Using my TB League model was also out of the question as I wasn’t sure if I might end up damaging the silicone skin on it. I knew this pose was humanly possible, but not really for plastic (and possibly silicone) models. So the next best thing was Clip Studio Paint’s 3D model. It managed to worked with a little bit a joint fudging on the midsection. Since most of the body was in profile, I looked up some yoga poses for help. It wasn’t until the shading of the midsection that I actually found the exact pose I needed from all three Pose Books that I currently own. I’ll admit, I was kinda livid when I found them since I spent more time getting the pose right during the sketch phases than anything other moment in this pic. But It helped out quite a bit when I had to figure out some tricky parts. PoseTrainer managed to help out as well for some muscle and bone shading. Even though PoseManiacs is back (and way better than before), it didn’t have this pose at the time I was working on this.
One thing I wanted to try out again with the background was a sort of photo-montage type of thing. Currently these backgrounds are done at my own discretion and have been done before on previous commissions. I’ve noticed other larger artists and concept artists using photographs (either stock or their own photos), of environments, and then photo-manipulating them into a background element, or the entire background. On my end, I’ve done this with Eliza, Parasoul, and Saruko commissions. And now for Ms. Fortune, I used a brick image material from Clip Studio Assets and applied appropriate shading and filtering from there. There’s one more pic down the pipeline that I’ll be trying this out on, to which I’ll then be adding it as a paid option for commissions.
Done on Clip Studio Paint Pro. Wacom Cintiq 16 Tablet used. Clip Studio Paint 3D Model traced for construction lines, then drawn freehand afterwards. Brick image material from Clip Studio Assets used for the ground.
